Downtown

For years, the majority of Cameron’s downtown buildings were occupied by county offices. In an effort to spark a downtown renaissance, Milam County exchanged nine downtown buildings and two lots for the shuttered Cameron Hospital building in a unique public-private partnership.

Renovation and Revitalization

Renovations have begun on the exchange buildings, several of which have become available, with another five buildings becoming available through 2022 and into 2023.

Plans for the available buildings are currently underway, including a prospective boutique hotel with amenities ranging from a drive-through deli and coffee shop to a wine-tasting room and brewery and restaurant as part of the Railfan on Main development. Other anticipated business ventures include a nail salon and coffee bar.

Other buildings are also available downtown, including the historic Culpepper Building on Main and a restaurant ready for lease.

Opportunity for You

Cameron holds interest in welcoming retail, professional services, artisans, dining, and entertainment businesses to downtown, as well as expanding options for downtown living. Downtown Cameron is highly suitable for any business wanting to stand out in its industry and make a mark.
